Oliver Jumpertz If you want to say there's a shortage of experienced software developers who are willing to be paid minimum wage while working 80 hours a week, under a middle manager who doesn't know what "IT" means, you might be on to something. 馃ぃ In all seriousness though, before the pandemic, maybe one could have argued that there were regional shortages at times. (Of course, there will always be a shortage of developers with 10+ years experience in a tech that's only been out for 6 months, but i digress.) With most of these roles being "remote until covid" now, that argument carries little to no weight. Between recruiters who seem to throw 99.999% of resumes into a black hole, managers who threaten to force people back to offices, despite the current health risks, and many companies treating employment like a game (i.e., i don't care if you have exactly the qualifications we're looking for, you still have to jump through these 5 flaming hoops while rubbing your tummy and chewing gum 馃槼), it's difficult to see how there's a real shortage. This is coming from someone that has current and relevant skills, is degreed, and has 25+ years experience across many industries, and several US states. But, i guess, to each his own. Or, perhaps more accurately, there is no spoon. Cheers!
