Maybe most people don't understand it, but it still is taught in actual computer science curricula at the university level. It's just that today, many developers are either self taught or learn from bootcamps or other fast track programs. I still fondly remember my computer organization class during my undergrad, not that many years ago. I loved programming in assembly. I remember thinking that finally, THIS was what I had come here to learn. Let me see what is happening, bit by bit. I don't think I've ever had the same level of satisfaction from any higher level project as I did from those early assembly routines. But I guess we can't very well put it in books about JavaScript, can we? Shame.
