Oh man, basically it was developed in 10 days.... 10 days... let that sink in. One of the most used languages in the wolrd (sadly in my opinion) was pushed to production in a hurry, but since having that kind of control in the browser was still a great innovation it took off like wildfire making it really hard to push improvements and updates. https://www.computer.org/csdl/mags/co/2012/02/mco2012020007.html
Visual Studio Code for sure. There are many options out there but VSC is quickly puting them to shame. Why? Amazing extensions ecosystem. Lightweight As simple as you want, as complex as you want. You can use it just for code highlighting, but you can also use it to build, debug, deploy, etc.
