Nice question. (Small note: your questions and answers don't fit a bit). IMHO, devs should use it if they are aware of its pros and cons. But, it should not be necessarily the de facto way for building layouts, because web has many use cases. Some would fit perfectly the flex-box model, some not. I like having options :)
