I had been using tabs ever since I started, but various professors at my university advise against it claiming that spaces are universally the same length (columns), and this became evidentially clear when I started using GitHub where tabs often messed with the formatting. I hate the use of spaces when the text editor in which I navigate through the code does not handle spaces like a tab. Sublime Text, on the other hand, does a superb job doing this and I'm sure most of the modern editors do this (I'm just an ST fanboy). If you mean that he taps the spacebar 4 times to indent, then yes, dump him.
