Term AI is overhyped nowadays and there is no real "artificial intelligence" ever exist. But so-called machine learning is used in many places, especially in security systems. I would recommend reading this article about biometrics and its history. Machine learning is widely used in facial recognition systems.

Unfortunately, people don't often think about privacy. I recently read this article about biometric trends and was impressed by the information. People walking down the street do not even think about the fact that they are being watched by biometric surveillance systems.

Interesting question, I often think about it. As far as I know, some banks are using this application for biometric identification and this is obviously not good for the client's privacy. Recent global events remind me of dystopia.
