Yeah :D I love programming, music and physics equally. They all have a part in my life. I feel sorry for some young folks that find themselves stuck in a big life decision when going to college. That is just bulls * . People should do what they want, money comes naturally when one is competent and commited.
Yes, some instruments. But I have more skills with the drums. I actually graduated in Music and Technology, and worked in some projects with game and film scoring. But I didn't like to work with Music, go figure... At least my son has a lot of instruments to play with me now :) When I graduated I already had a career in development, so it was clearly the easiest path to keep a stable income. Funny thing is I never graduated in any programming related field. Almost graduated in physics, though.
Usually I get really mad. Mainly because it is ME that will have to fix and refactor something that could have been done right in the first place. -- Hey, why don't we work on this great new feature that could bring value to the project? -- Can't. We are rewriting the bad software we wrote a while ago.
I couldn't agree more with Davor. I see young developers grasping new hyper-solutions everyday, but they can't, still, use simple logic to solve the smallest of issues (like image resizing using rule of three). Yes, it is overcomplicated. At my office, we discuss this almost every day. As an example, after trying Capistrano, Jenkins and all sorts of stuff, our best tool for deployment is a bash script: no dependencies, runs everywhere, one simple file...
Hi, Sergio. Why do you think is mandatory for a good CTO to attend conferences around the world? I mean, is it really necessary? I agree that conferences are a great place for networking and experience exchange, but I still don't think that it is imperative. In face of the latest trends, I feel that I must be missing something...
