Take home assignments can be a pain for candidates who are in the exploring phase of job hunting. There's no incentive for them to spend hours doing an assignment when they already have a job with plenty of other opportunities. There is a very small edge case in which candidates REALLY want to work at said company and are willing to put in the time.
