I feel the same way about hiring those from fancy universities, they lack drive and understanding, and typically decided on the course work because it sounded cool. I hire developers based on what projects they've worked on weather personal, open source, or for an employer. I usually dismiss any class based projects. IMO the best developers, from my experience have pet projects outside of work or school. self taught == worked harder to get here they're at...and made it this far without help and may actually have some hardcore troubleshooting skills. There is only pass or fail when self taught. There is no, well you got the equivalent of a D grade but you still get full credit...aka participation trophy
