My Top Password Manager: KeePass XC. Syncs between all my machines and my phone using Syncthing, is open source, and nothing is behind a paywall. My Top Git GUI: Magit. Though (although it's been a long time) I think TortoiseGit is also a nice tool. My Top Browser: Firefox. It's fast, it isn't controlled by a big corporation, and honestly, at this point it's just "the lesser evil". My Top Code Editor: Spacemacs. Yes, it takes quite some time to get used to, but boy is it powerful...
And if you want a really comfy desktop where you never have to use the command line except for if you want to, you should get openSUSE (because it has this amazing YaST software). And if you want a desktop that doesn't treat you like a dimwit toddler and isn't all preachy about what you are allowed to do or not, go for KDE. Which you can also configure "like macOS" with stuff like the Latte Dock.
A programming language is to a programmer what a hammer is to a construction worker A construction worker uses a bunch of different tools; a construction worker only using a hammer won't be very helpful. Same goes for programming, but there it seems a huge amount of programmers think they only need a hammer (JavaScript) and refuse to even look at anything else.
