Hi Adam,

Managing media is a problem I face regularly. It’s easy for their size to get out of control and while some tools will identify unoptimized media, it would be really nice to be able to optimize the media right from within the browser DevTools. There are third-party services that enable this, but they also charge for their services and I have to do the work over the network instead of locally.

Are there any possibilities of having a media optimization feature in Google Chrome or does any exist now?

I empathize with the problem space, but I don't think the optimization featureset should be in the browser or it's devtools:

that browser instance is only 1 type of user with 1 type of viewport. You'll likely be needing to optimize media across platforms and sizes
the browser doesnt optimize other assets, so there's no history of the feature in other aspects, like scripts
the "right place" for this work is either server or build time, not post-render from the client (in my opinion)

So, I dont foresee any media optimization features showing up in Chrome.. but maybe! I wouldn't rule it out.
