Nah I don't think CodePen is aiming to become your version control management software. Not that there isn't some crossover, or that it's impossible.
We hope it's just more fun to keep your front end code on CodePen, because you get to see the output right next to the code. That's a fundamental CodePen thing.
It's more likely that there is better integration between CodePen and version control and project management software like GitHub and GitLab. It's your code, after all. We'd like to make it as painless as possible to move that code around wherever you'd like.
