There are a lot of successful engineers/developers on this platform. (I understand success means different to different people. So it can be anything that you value). I always wonder how you guys are so focused (assuming that is the one of the main contributor to their success). I often find myself either getting side-tracked or going in completely new direction.
Do you have a mission-statement or a long-term goal that you are so passionate and dedicated to that always kept focused and on track? How did you came up with the goal?
And lastly any tips for me or really anyone reading this?
Thank you for your reply.
Hi Anish, this sounds like an interesting question to me! I have a lot to say but I'll try to be concise :) My answer here is just a personal opinion because everyone is unique.
I am, by no means, a successful developer or anything. In fact, I'm still learning and constantly trying to improve. Over the weekend, I read a book called "Mastery" by Robert Greene.
In that book, it tells the stories of exemplary people like Charles Darwin, Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Mozart and uncovers the reasons/processes on how these people can be so focused and dedicated in their craft to the point of mastery. Though I haven't finished the book, I can tell you that I learned that their focus comes from them pursuing fields they have a deep natural, instinctual inclination to. Basically, they found their calling and it naturally keeps them on the path to focus and mastery. I really enjoyed the book so far. I recommend anyone to read it!
Some tips I have to get started being more focused:
Thanks for the question. I hope my answer helps you a little!

anish bhanwala,
I do not have one as I found the 'life-long-mission' thing is very uncertain and challenging to follow. That doesn't mean that, I do not have dreams. I have dreams, wish, ideas but nothing for a very longer stretch.
I try to keep my goals shorter as much as possible and found it has advantages:
But that's me and I am sure, many may not agree with it.
Another area I realized is important is, planning for your goals. Be it short, long or whatever size, without a plan to follow them is of no use. In fact it is waste of time in making those goals. I also believe, it is the most difficult part. How to keep you motivated and follow it regularly.
Here is what I do(again same medicine may not work for all):
Sorry for a long answer but, as you have asked a great question, I couldn't limit in few lines! Thanks for asking.
