I use it all the time. Most times i simply use it to jump to the top or bottom of the file. Even if it’s just twice the length of the screen.
You could use keyboard shortcuts to accomplish that. Ctrl + Home (for the top of the file) or Ctrl + End (for the bottom). If you're on a mac, I believe the shortcuts are command + down or command + up.
