I think it is going in the right direction. One of the things I did not like about Internet is that the only way to make money out of it is using ADs. Only Google and Facebook make substantial profits out of their product.
But of late, the subscription model is catching up. Medium has no ADs and is subscription driven. The kind of product I wanted to see in the Internet from Day 1.
Also, the browser wars are over. Not many people are fixing their apps for IE or Edge. Even Microsoft is considering using Chrome browser engine for Edge for becoming standards compliant.
HTTP 2 is great with lot of features. The overhaul is much needed.
Needless to say, HTML5 and CSS3 has revolutionised the way web developers do their work. I especially love features like localStorage, serviceWorkers, CSS Grid to name a few.
We are going in the right direction, but of course, a bit slower. We write code and content at a frenetic pace. But the overall progress is right, but at a much slower pace.
