If your company can't gain reputation / awesomeness by open-sourcing their code, I think you should at least tell them that you want to gain reputation for yourself. in good companies this can be an argument.
Also - if you can get other people to use your SDK, they will find bugs that you didn't encounter (yet), and might also fix them for you.
