WWDC is supposed to be a developers' conference. The keynote which Apple presented today had more or less nothing to do with developers.
Do you think upgrading machines or a black iMac Pro or WatchOS 4 is what developers were expecting from a developers' conference?
Who the hell launches a hardware product in a developers' event?
What are your thoughts? Please write them down here.
It was not very very bad. But, I am not happy either after watching today's WWDC. Few things like VR on the table demo they showed today, Sony had it working since 2014. Here's the demo:
Apple is very late to the party and pretty confused. They sounded desperate for making a hit show.
Using keywords like "Machine Learning", "Artificial Intelligence", "Virtual Reality", etc. won't make you look cool. Another example:
Person1 : Hey, You have to pay me $20.
Apple keyboard suggesting to pay by Apple Pay isn't ML or AI. Google is way beyond them.
I think they have completely lost momentum since Jobs died. Just as last time when he was sacked. It's sad but I think the other tech companies have more momentum.
"Sony had it working since 2014"
Apple is very very rarely first to the party. They have never rushed to market with anything in recent history so... If their talking about it / releasing it - their finally to the point where they think it can be done well or at least, better then the competition.
Refreshed MBP's and iMacs are nice. I like the Space Gray iMac Pro. I'm in the market for neither right now, but it's nice everything got a bump.
I like the iOS updates for iPad - I've said it for years; iOS will continue to merge into MacOS and this is more proof of it with Files app and the Dock.
I was just about to order an Amazon Echo the other day; Gizmodo had a $40 of or whatever coupon and decided to hold of until today. I can wait until December - that's fine. I'm not a huge fan of Siri and that functionality, but I am a huge fan of Airplay - I run 3 Airport Expresses connected to an amp in the basement; each Airport feeds a different zone of the house (kitchen / dining room, 2nd floor, and patio) via in-wall speakers. A HomePod or 2 will be a nice addition here and there.
This IS primarily a developer conference so any new products are welcomed.
If Apple is getting into AR - I'm expecting some sort of glasses to be being worked on. Obviously, their not ready yet - but using an iPad (and I'm assuming, an iPhone) as the viewing device won't last long. It'll be cumbersome at best.
Watch updates are nice - I skipped V2 so we'll see if new hardware comes out this year as well. I'm assuming a Watch hardware update as well as the next iPhone update are being saved for then the new campus / theater opens up.
App Store facelift looks nice. It is getting to be a PITA to find new apps so hopefully, the Today screen helps that.
People are way to critical of Apple. For a few years, things moved at a breakneck pace; it was never sustainable and should never have been expected to be. So nothing "OMG THATS AMAZING" has come out in a bit. Ok? What has Microsoft come out with that's amazing? Google? Amazon? Innovation takes time. Be happy they release at the pace they do.
