Most bosses and managers get horrified if they hear about a new technology. Consider a company that is stuck with SVN. Git can be a better alternative that's proven and used widely.
What should a developer keep in mind and what are the steps to follow to convince managers/CTOs to try out something new?
What @JanVladimirMostert said. From there you might run a pilot with a small project to convince them even more that the new technology is better/more useful/safer/more efficient than what you're using now. :)

Call a meeting, do a presentation on what problems this new tech will be solving and be ready for hard questions, migration plans and everything inbetween - you need to drive it from start to finish without it affecting your existing work.
