I have heard and read many times that if there is a project that is past deadline, in the interest of rushing it out and finishing it - DECREASE the amount of individuals working on it. You'll get more done with 5 than 50!
Think of a race car. If you're trying to accelerate to win the race do you add weight to the car? You would probably cut off any excess weight you didn't need to make it as light as possible instead!
