Hi All,
Thanks for being active users of Devmag. This is an important announcement regarding our future plans and what it means for you. This is going to be a long post - so here is the tldr :
P.S. All your posts, comments and other contributions will remain intact in the new version.
We launched Devmag about 7 months back in order to build a global community of software developers who are willing to help each other by sharing their knowledge. Fazle and I took 2 months to build this platform and launched earlier this year to see how developers perceive this. And we did the right thing by trusting our gut feeling. Developers love to share their knowledge and help others get started. Shortly after the launch many developers, architects and CTOs signed up - And today 4000+ developers use Devmag as a daily destination website.
We are pretty excited to make this bigger and better. We went ahead and closed a seed funding from one of the top VCs (Announcement coming soon) and also, we are expanding the team. Recently Prashant joined the team and the three of us have been working really hard for last 1 month to release the next version of Devmag.
Devmag is good, but we believe there is a room for a lot of improvements. We talked to some of the active users and got really useful feedbacks and suggestions. We want to fix the current shortcomings of Devmag, incorporate user feedbacks and build an improved platform that developers will love to use. Here are some of the improvements you will find in the next release :
We are going to introduce a better and personalised feed that will help you discover content from your interest areas. We will show you useful and actionable content based on the topics and developers you follow and your daily activities.
Based on your activities we will show you developers who are similar to you so that you can follow and interact with them.
Tags/Topics are enhanced in the next version. Each topic will have its own microsite. You can follow a topic to stay updated with what is happening in that area. Apart from posts, topic pages will feature most active developers, useful resources and many other details that you will find interesting.
Developers are more than willing to help other developers by sharing what they know. Why not reward them? We will track your contributions and offer you many perks and additional privileges from time to time.
We have completely redesigned the profile to make it even better and more useful. Our aim is to create profiles that developers will love to showcase.
When we checked out all the collections created by our members, we came across many useful and interesting collections. The new version will give more exposure to such interesting collections and allow you to subscribe to others' collections.
You will come across many more small/big enhancements and surprises once we go live. We are planning to launch this in private beta in 1st week of November. We'll really appreciate it if you guys come forward and test this out. I will reach out to some of you soon. But if you want to try out the beta, feel free to email me or post a comment here and I will get back to you with more details.
We can't wait to show you what we are building! :) If you have any questions, please ask in comments or email me.
