Angular 2.0 or React.
No point in learning Angular 1.x now. Don't listen to anybody that tells you "it's not going anywhere", because it is. It's going away.
Of course, Angular 1 developers won't jump ship immediately, just as Silverlight developers didn't all bail out the day after Microsoft shot that in the head. But make no mistake, it's a dead man walking. As you've correctly pointed out, you don't need to know it in order to learn Angular 2. In fact, Angular 1 knowledge may actually be a hindrance in that regard! (Have a listen to the most recent episode of the Adventures in Angular podcast, where they discuss this very subject: devchat.tv/adventures-in-angular/082-aia-getting-….)
Sure, React may have had its growing pains, as others here have pointed out. But they've haven't pulled anything like what Google has done with Angular 2.
