Hi there, Before I continue with anything else I would just like to say that I am an extensive Wappler user / developer (yeah I can hear some of you laughing but that's ok). Viewing some of the answers here I can say that I feel like entering in a place where most people were about to burn books that were saying earth is not flat etc a few centuries back, and for me introducing myself as Wappler developer (haha yes stop laughing) is a reason to burn me along with my Wappler licensed software.
I would like to thank the one who posted this question here but also need to point out that the question itself (Wappler = The beginning of the end of coding?) is limiting possible answers. Is like asking if an electric screwdriver means the end of hand screwdriver.
Wappler is not the end of coding.
I wouldn't say that Wappler is a shortcut in life. Do you think for example that Photoshop is a shortcut in life? What about Illustrator or Premiere. We could edite photos, videos, create illustrations before these programs existed. Do you think that email is a shortcut in life? We could mail anyone we wanted through the regular postal mail. Do you think smartphones are a shortcut in life? We could phone anyone we wanted form regular phone booths.
Wappler is a tool, which is not perfect of course, but it is not another automatic web builder, it is not another 'going to make you a web developer in one-day' software. It has a learning curve, you need to dedicate hours (and I mean hours!) to learn it, just like you do when you learn to code. If you know how to code you will understand Wappler's logic and pick up the pace fast with it. If you don't know how to code you will have to dedicate much more time in order to achieve stuff. Just like in normal coding.
Let's talk about Business Logic. Wappler is bringing Business logic as a top priority. If you don't have a Business Logic there is no reason to use Wappler. If you don't have a clear vision and just want to finish something fast which shines so your client pays you don't use Wappler.
If you want to be able to be creative and adaptable to new suggestions and ideas while a project advances and while keeping development costs low then use it.
Wappler is not an automatic generator. You decide what you will build. You will design the database for example, and if this sucks then your project will suck. Wappler won't build the project for you. You will build it. The only thing that Wappler will do for you is to cut down costs both for you and your client.
Wappler is based on vue.js and can create reactive websites webapps and apps. It uses bootstrap but not limiting you to use bootstrap if you don't want to. It consists of two big frameworks. The AppConnect (very similar to react, angular, vue) and the ServerConnect which does all the server side job. Code is created by mostly clicking (and probably this is what you hate more) but this does not mean you don't need to hand code, or even create the same result by typing it. For example, there are many times where I prefer to hand code what I want rather than make a click in the UI. Also code created by Wappler is accessible and can be edited by hand if you want to.
The reason you still don't see many projects made with Wappler is that many of us are mostly creating custom CRUD web apps that are not easy to give access and to showcase. I am sure that in the next weeks - months Wappler made projects will begin to show up.
Regarding the fairly basic website for Wappler, is that the developing team is mostly dedicating time on updates, bug fixes that will make the product even better. They are developers so they think like that. They avoid fluff and dancing bears. They dedicate their time in developing things that matter and this is why we love them because they think like we do. I would suggest viewing the Wappler's community which is much more active and is actually Wappler's heart. community.wappler.io
It is normal that many people will never use a software like this one but please don't be so radical about it. It is not another automatic web builder which creates the same result for everyone. You can still laugh, hate it, critise it's name or whatever but first give it a try, because all people behind it are openminded and from every criticism keep the good stuff which is the main reason for Wappler's success.
