That is a question i often have in mind. I develop a page, with which users will be able to design a windows application. It's quite fun and challenging but i have to admit, that this is not what i personally want to do.
Right now I want to start 4 projects.
In my free time i record videos for youtube or I livestream on twitch. For that, i want a homepage, where my videos get automatically posted, my livestream gets announced and i am able to write about my life
I tested many different wiki softwares like media wiki, tiki wiki, moin moin and alot more. Most of them don't satisfy all of my needs so i would be really interested in programming my own wiki
cliche? Dunno. I just want to show something to my friends with which they can do something. And i like to design my own worlds and define own rules.
I saw many dating pages from the "metal" and "goth" scene and most of them are honestly shit. So that would be another point, to create a kind of social network/single dating page for the "black scene"
Another example is a good friend of mine. He develops event technic for a small company, but he dreams of an own pc game.
What are you doing for your living, and what do you want to do? And why don't you do it?
At the moment I'm involved with several startups ...
The first one I'm a minor shareholder and leading the direction the architecture is moving, there's about 150 integrations into external providers, about 10 APIs which external clients can use depending on which functionality they need, three control panel type apps, a mobile app and I think it recently passed the 200 repositories mark in GitLab and all these apps are interconnected, so things are getting pretty huge. This startup has already been in business for quite a while and we're waiting for mid next year which should hopefully be the big day.
The second one I'm a majority shareholder, a co-founder, the only technical person in the startup, fully responsible for the whole tech stack and infrastructure - it involves two control panel apps, an admin app, four APIs, two mobile apps, a sales / sign-up app so that partners can sign-up people and get their commission, a CRM system with its own API that pushes data to several hundred websites, several other standalone components that interact with the system and a Core system that contains business logic and business processes and all the logic to coordinate these 15 other standalone-interconnected applications as well as the only application that has access to data (MySQL, Memcached, Redis, Google Datastore). Launch date is January 2016, still plenty of work to finish.
My own startup which I'm the founder of, focusses on starting up startups. Currently involved with several smaller projects which I also can't elaborate too much about. In the pipeline (which is currently part of my R&D effort) I'm building a conveyer-belt-like infrastructure / process to make it possible to spit out tech-startups / startups that requires heavy tech-investment in the same way physical goods are being manufactured in high-volume production plants. I've identified many places where tech in startups / new projects can be fast-tracked, but there's no way to fast-track that project as it requires significant time-investment to overcome many complexities and looking at all the other places I'm involved in, this R&D project doesn't get nearly enough time as it should. Next year we have another JV we'll potentially be taking on which we'll interconnect with the second startup I've mentioned - this startup will be heavy mobile driven, it's about time I get deep into the mobile space.
What do I want to do? Honestly, I think some time at the beach would be nice or some time to scuba exotic reefs at exotic islands, but as I know myself, after day four of trying to get some rest, I'll be knee-deep into my R&D projects again.
Hi All! This is my first ever response on devmag. I am currently working as a Cloud Software Engineer, developing cloud native apps. I am seeing this huge trend of all of AWS services being integrated together to make great microservices. I am a passionate learner and have recently started my career in software. I really want to solve some simple problems using the latest technologies such as AWS Lambda, API Gateway, etc. Anyone doing any interesting stuff in this space? I am really looking forward to start contributing to open source. Don't know yet where would I start this journey, however just wanted to start by getting to know cool people here. So, hello everyone! :)
Well, right now I am building the next version of Devmag and really enjoying it. :)
I want to have a personal website where I can blog about stuff, but have been struggling to find time. Anyway, we are going to have a stories section very soon and I am looking forward to writing my stories here. I also want to learn more about Machine Learning and related algorithms. I have heard good things about machine learning course by Andrew Ng but again not enough time.
Trying to create a social network for movies using TMDB API , different from IMDB and other movie websites .
I'm currently working on a gaming social community (yeah, yeah I know - another social website) using Nodejs. Aside from that, I'm working on a Project Management Platform with some colleagues as an inside project for the company I'm currently working for using ASP.NET MVC and AngularJS. Also on Github I'm maintaining a couple of small projects and educational(reference) repositories.
As you can see, I try to get myself as busy as I can. The only downside of all this - I almost forgot what sleep is.
Starting to partly fix/change my CV/resume, just for fun. Thinking about a simple homepage with some basics on there.
Other than that, nothing extracurricular really. Working 40 hours a week is enough for me really ;)
I currently writing a open source Home automation in my freetime. The project is mainly a Webapplication where the user can add Datapoints. These datapoints get their data from a Raspberry PI or something else. In the near future I want to make that you can control other Elements like heating, electric socket or light switch.
Sometimes I think about creating a blog, but then I don´t know about what to write. Maybe in the near future I will make it.
I am creating a SIMPLE (and FREE) issue tracking system that can also be used for blogs and gallery sites. I couldn't find anything out there to suite my needs. Emphasis is on simplicity and security. It's in PHP.
Not being a designer, I've used twitter's bootstrap - so it looks quite 'austere and industrial' but I'm hoping that when I put it out there someone with better design skills can make it look better.

In pursuit of a life of simplicity, independence, magnanimity, and trust
Inspired by Derek Sivers, I maintain a "now" page which lists all what I'm currently involved in. It lives here.
Luckily, I do what I want to do. Always has been.
But if I stretch my imagination a bit, I like to learn to play a musical instrument (tried twice but failed miserably), would like to travel to world's oldest places (Ajanta, Tanjore, Jerusalem etc).
