I personally have just one goal I want to achieve. Writing one piece of code that I come back to years later, and to think "cool, not too shabby".
To reach there, I have to code and learn and code and every iteration I become a little better. That's the problem with reaching a certain level, it's not that easy to improve anymore. Esp. since those standard answers don't help anymore. Not because they're bad but because I know them already and I have higher standards than just "clean code" or "SOLID" or those main foundations. It's about structure, elegance and functionality.
That sounds a bit dramatic to myself ... still that's what I strive for ... writing code that doesn't suck when I come back to it 4 years later. Because that could mean 2 things:
A. I wrote one piece of good code
B. I did not evolve the last 4 years
... trivial I know. But I turned down CTO positions and other career building ones because I don't feel ready for them. Right now, hard work and improvement is my main target ... the rest I don't know ...
