I once had a manager who used to bash everyone. Screaming his lungs out. He'd be gasping for air at the end of his rants, too.
He never targeted me, because I was going above and beyond every single day — working up until 4 in the morning, and getting back to work at 9.
Once he felt the urge to go on one of his rants, and I was in the receiving group. While the rest were impressed and silent, I just laughed my ass off, because he came across as this ridiculous little man trying to exert his power by screaming and getting all red in the face.
My reaction pissed him off, so he started screaming directly at me. I kept laughing and just brushed him off. Quit the following day, because life is too short for you to have to deal with these kinds of people on a daily basis. He begged for me to stay, saying he couldn't understand why I was quitting.
If you're good at what you do, you can always find a better place to work. Don't endure these kinds of people. If you're miserable, you won't fulfill your potential, so you're not doing yourself a favour.
