Both languages have Pro and Cons and both are great languages. I would tell that try both and go with one which you feel comfortable. C# is more modern language as it has got few latest features but Java is also catching up there.
So try yourself and go for one which you like. Both have good jobs in markets.
actually, we does not know .. whats gonna happen in the future right. Maybe, java is popular right now, and up to 10 years c# will mostly use by the industry. My perception is...if its the "knowledge", i will grab it as most i can.. haha.
Depends on which country you live in. Might be neither of them depending on the country.

10 years ago I left Uni knowing only Java today write mostly C#.
I hope it's not to unkind to say: if you're doing something purely to boost your job prospects then you're doing the wrong thing.
Try both! If you get the taste of one over the other then go with it! Get impassioned; write more code. Put your code out there on GitHub or whatever. Yeah nobody will take any notice, but one day a potential employer will do some homework and look you up. Let them say: there's a motivated individual that I want on my team!
Good luck to you!
