Does anyone use a Microsoft Surface Pro? I'm more of a PC tower kind of guy but was toying with the idea of getting a laptop for travel. So, not my primary development machine, but still capable.

The Surface seems kind of cool but I don't know a single person who owns one.

Same here, heard great things about it, but haven't seen anyone buy it. I suppose people would just get a Mac for that kind of money.

I use a Surface Pro 3 i5/8gb/256gb for web development & managing engineers. It handles pretty much anything I throw at it, including virtual machines. In my home office, it's docked to 27" and 23" screens and a bluetooth mouse & keyboard. And when I'm done with work, it's a great machine for social media and other things, even some gaming.

The main thing I'd point out is the Surface Pro 3 has a problem with heat, and will sometimes need to throttle the CPU to cool itself down. I hear this is handled way better in the Surface Pro 4 and the new Surface Pro.

I used to want one, until I got the HP Spectra. I also realized (and was told) that the MS Surfaces are way overpriced considering you can get the same and more (convertible, pen, etc, etc) from other makers.

thanks! Yeah, I noticed that the low end model was a "reasonable" price quickly climbs with better specs.

I use a Surface Pro 4 and it's worked well. i5 U chip, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD. It's comparable to any other computer with those specs, which is what most ultrabook class laptops will be.

I forget what class of chip is the next powerful after the U, but the ones used in the MacBook pros and fatter Thinkpads are obviously going to give more performance (but also not be as portable).
