"Don't forget to add your reasons too!"
But don't forget to add the scope of the project either. With no scope, I'm sticking with Rackspace. Their phone support is a must when crap hits the fan, it's 2am and you have no idea why something isn't working. And they will answer; generally within 2 or 3 rings; and you get a tech, not a low level customer support specialist. (personal experience that has happened)
I think DigitalOcean is a great hosting provider and is also considered among the top 3 iaas provider available in the indusstry. But, I do believe linode is a also a good hosting provider and is linode secure server could be a good option. If you want to go for an economical version than you can consider linode over digitalOcean. Otherwise, DigitalOcean is a better iaas provider at any day.

wizzy
I use both for different reasons. Personally prefer DigitalOcean's interface/API and process, but linode's isn't difficult either.
DigitalOcean seem to market themselves to the developer better.
