Purely a hype thing. Unfortunately almost the whole world embraced the idea jQuery was bad and that it needed Vanilla JS or React-Vue-Bla-bla Components rewriting. Always the same story with old languages or frameworks: people get disgusted of them because they wrote awful undocumented non-tested spaghetti code or inherit a code base that they don't understand so it's easier to rewrite. Then they rewrite with the next-trendy-thing they heard on top of WebShit News™ and then it only adds layers of complexity. Same with the current "Monolith" > "Microservices" > "Docker" > "Kubernetes" thing that start an horror dependency of "we-got-a-problem-let-s-add-a-complex-tool-to-solve-it". Eventually in 10 years all this would have disappear and we will be back to plain old CGI with 5 lines of jQuery on top of it.
