Everyone keeps asking the dramatic question:
“Will AI replace developers?”
I think the more useful question is:
“What kind of developers will still matter most when AI handles more of the obvious work?”
That is where the real pressure is.
Because the value is shifting.
From typing faster
to judging better.
From output alone
to architecture, reliability, product sense, and context.
Slightly controversial take: AI is not mainly replacing engineers.
It is exposing how many teams were overvaluing raw execution and undervaluing judgment.
And that shift is going to hurt a lot of careers built on being “quick.”
