If you include decreased maintainability in side effects, this seems an unlikely scenario... But if it happens, sure.
Regarding the unexpected side effects mentioned in another answer: that's a good point. But I'm pretty arrogant, so I think I can see the side effects coming. It'd feel like cargo cult behavior if I'd follow the pattern without understanding why.
