Artificial Intelligence is around the corner

There is one thing that keeps me up at night a lot lately, I see the AI industry is taking off at giant steps.

It will not take to long for us to feel the enormous effects of AI, and there is an absolute truth that bothers me in all sorts of ways, and that is: People is VERY, VERY unaware of the capabilities AI has and will have, even if they think they know, is even hard to grasp for people in the field.

Most people completely ignore how capable and how close we are to a revolution (if we are not already there). In 5 years, every industry will feel the tremendous presence of AI and the reality is that we are not prepared, we think it will be like the smartphone or the internet revolution, but I think it will not be anything close, the effects will be much more profound and will affect our lives in much more significant ways. Governments will need to follow along.

Just think about this, governments (and the world) are not even up to date with the required justice/regulations framework for today's internet, now think about AI, something people in the governments and people overall completely ignore.

My Concern is purely Ethical

I consider I have very strong ethics, and if I would ever in the future have full control of a very powerful AI system, I will for sure use it for the good (assuming I have complete and exclusive control, this would be maybe possible!).

The issue here is that for someone who knows almost nothing about AI, it will be to hard to judge and even have a voice when AI starts affecting civilian life.

I like to think we are very far from that future and that we will have more time to improve our education system so our citizens are fully capable of controlling and judging AI, but we are not there, we are very very far from that.

We developers have an extremely important role in educating those around us as much as we can. And probably and hopefully, we will all come together finally and start some sort of Avengers league to prepare and protect the world from AI, or at least die trying.
