Getting back to programming, what to do?

Hello everyone, I went to college the first time for computer information systems. It was basically a CS degree with a different name. We did a lot of programming, we learned algorithms, some cryptography, sorting, that thing with the Os and the N.a., etc. Anyway that was 8 years ago and then I joined the army after graduation and didn't use that info ever again.

After the Army I went back to school for networking and now I have a job doing help desk and I'm missing programming. I want to get back into it and hopefully start a career in it. I was thinking of maybe going back to a two year school and doing programming, where I would get my housing, school and books paid and I would get a part time job. The other thing I was thinking was going to a coding boot camp but I don't know logistically how I can do that and provide for my family at the same time. Last thing I thought was to learn on my own and see if I can get a job that way.

My question is. What do you guys think is the best thing I can do to start a career in programming.
