One pattern separates teams that successfully use coding agents from those that constantly fight them: they invest more in reusable context than reusable prompts.
Prompt engineering doesn't scale because every new session starts with partial amnesia. Durable engineering comes from encoding institutional knowledge into deterministic assets project rules, architecture constraints, trusted documentation, permission boundaries, and executable guardrails. Once those exist, you can swap Claude, Codex, GPT, or the next frontier model without rebuilding your engineering process. In the long run, your context layer becomes a bigger competitive advantage than your model choice.
