Actually, I'd like to backpedal a little.
It is relatively cheaper for a corporation to lobby/bribe an elected representative to get a particular outcome on an issue. Also, there are very few people aware of this violation of law, so the crime is less likely to be caught.
It's a lot more expensive to bribe a lot of voters to sell you their points, without this violation being noticed.
So the new system is more secure, after all.
