I love when articles have clean architectural diagrams. Maybe you're a fellow Lucid Charts user! 🙃

What I thought was most interesting was the use of Firebase Analytics.

It's been a while since I've used Firebase and I'm trying to recall if Firebase Analytics is just really Google Analytics in the console.

First time I've heard of VTL Templates.

Yep, I just switched to Firebase because the integration is really smooth, and analyzing custom events is just way easier compared to PinPoint. Also the live debug view within Firebase is awesome. But it was hard to leave the AWS ecosystem.

I am not a huge fan of VTL, tbh. Because it is an own syntax to learn and you don't have all typical concepts like in other programming languages (VTL is a templating language). When using AppSync I always recommend taking a look at Lambda Pipeline resolvers because they give you so much flexibility.
