I read somewhere that it is only applicable to web applications. if yes, then what are the architecture models for other types of applications?

MVC lends itself easily to web applications but it is used in other types of development as well.

I've made a lot of programs in the past, and without Google they wouldn't be nearly as good as they are now, or they wouldn't have been finished at all.
