Using Notion for personal project management.

Never thought about Discord as something for companies. I thought it's gaming-related.

Any advantages of using Discord over Slack?

True Discord did start off as a gaming chat application. But they have rebranded because their audience has grown and become more diverse. It is no longer only for gamers there are a lot of popular developer related Discord groups. Even Hashnode has a Discord group.

I interviewed with one company and they said they were using Discord for communicating which I thought was cool. Discord excels when it comes to audio and video chat thats an area Slack is behind in.

But why it's soo popular suddenly?

Because of the pandemic more people are working from home and Discord is a more fun version of Slack. It is less business orientated and feels more casual.

Plus its VOIP is superior to Slack and a lot of the user base for Skype and TeamSpeak switched to Discord because it is more feature rich and convenient for gaming.
