Honestly, I've had more help using W3Schools. The "Try it yourself" examples are exactly what I need whenever I'm trying to learn or implement something quickly.
MDN is great too, but I use it only when I need a more in-depth guide or reference.
I like the differentiation that you made for w3schools is a great place for the basics/as a starting point due to it having less in-depth info and only exactly what you need to get started/try it out.

totally agree with you, i myself learnt a lot from w3school and i like it for the same reason as you, less content more examples
