The honesty in the "what is proven, and what is not" section is what makes this week worth following. It would have been easy to present the sensor-to-agent step as a finished monitoring system, but the post is clear: no real RDMA NIC yet, the counter names come from driver code rather than an observed card, and nothing has actually raised an alert — a person watching the dashboard saw the fault.
Two details stuck with me. First, the decision to drop the microsecond promise once it was clear a real NIC runs RoCE in hardware and leaves no packet to timestamp — checking where the probe sits before promising a number is a lesson that travels well beyond RDMA. Second, breaking the lock-free queue on purpose under ThreadSanitizer, and testing the metrics endpoint against a one-byte-at-a-time slow client, shows a testing mindset I wish more build logs shared: prove the guarantee by showing the test fails when it should.
