A spot-check of the 197 listings priced above $999 found that roughly half were plausibly legitimate luxury accommodations, including high-end condos, five bedroom properties, serviced apartments, and boutique hotels. However, around 10–15 appeared to be clear pricing errors or placeholders, such as private rooms listed at $100,000 per night. The rest were ambiguous. So, the cap did remove some genuine luxury listings, but it was intended to prevent extreme prices from distorting the mean not to imply that every outlier was erroneous....also the price cap removed 197 listings. Before that, 34 listings were dropped for missing price data (7 of which also lacked location), since they could not contribute to a price analysis.
