I always admired a saying by Voltaire that says : « Je me suis dit cent fois que je serais heureux si j'étais aussi sot que ma voisine, et cependant je ne voudrais pas d'un tel bonheur. » people tend to find joy in ignorance, they tend to feel it and therefore believe in the eternal righteousness and correctness of themselves, do you think Voltaire’s neighbour ever questioned anything about her life? I personally don’t know, all i know is that self reflection is an exposition to external unusual facts, in Voltaire’s neighbour mind the usual facts are already challenging, she’d be surprised that she was referred to by “sot” she is fully convinced that her happiness comes from a great understanding to the world, those people are right where they wanna be.
