The same for us, standups generally take more times that it needed because people "talk" too much about what are they doing andit become boring at the ed. And generally they aren't lot of improvement that come from this standup : "it's like we say about we are doing but it's all". I think that trying to do it shorter can be nice, try limiting the numbers of words for example : "explain it in 20 words, no more". It will be concise and dynamic for everyone. And maybe you can try to add new question : if you only say what p"are you late / okay / in advance" in your tasks, say to me if everybody has well understand what he need to do or they are some lack about it ... In tech same wa response must be concise. Maybe it can be fun to introduce "fun" part for the standup. So why not ask a question about sport or other : "Manchester city or united" or whatever to introduce some fun or other every day and help developers to talk about if on break or other. That's my idea, but it's my developer point of view, i haven't lot experience about management
I'm a windows user and personnally i've tried to install linux (manjaro) on my computer and i switch back. The things is that when you aren't an advanced linux user, you just lost time when you use a linux install some software can be hard when you are windows user ...). There are also some software/ games that i cannot use on linux. So i just see that i've just lost some times to use linux and i don't see lot of advantages for my use case. Docker + windows seems enought for me.
You can use both. With nodejs you can use for example express (that's an example, there a lot of other framework available) that will allow to manage more comfortably routing and manage logic. Use the language that you prefer / have more experience. If you have lot of users, nodejs will have advantage to handle more efficiently high traffic, but if you don't think have lot of users it may not be a problem to use ruby.
For me it's / it will be : React and typescript : i do nodejs since some years, but i now want to use typescript for all benefits that it can afford. React the same i already know but i need to refresh a bit with some new things (hooks ...). Rust : It seems very popular at the moment, and i would like to discover more "low level stuff", it can help to be a better developper i think ! ;) I think that it's nice combo and it will allow to me to work on lot of things (mobile, web, api, high performance stuff, maybe embedded with rust).
