The primary reason is community. You can watch the talks online, even tweet at the speaker with questions -- but there's something special about walking around the event floor and bumping into them for a short conversation (or even sharing drinks at an after party). Events/conferences are also platforms for speakers. They may not have the same following, and posting the talk on their YouTube or Twitter would just fall flat compared to a network built up to broadcast these topics. Hearing a talk in person is also much more visceral than any video. Depending on the type of talk, it can be much more moving and motivating. You can also ask questions and engage the speaker (if they allow). It's all just different points of exposure. In a world where there are a myriad of platforms for content, you have to spread your influence as far as possible to ensure the highest saturation. For example, some people that visit the event may not have the time to follow videos or tweets online as closely, so they use events to catch up with major topics.
Great recs, and thanks for sharing your experience! That was my issue with going full laptop too! I ran into OS issues (since I dual-booted OSX and Win), and needed a secondary computer to setup boot disks with (since you can't just pull out the laptop HDD and work with it). Such a nightmare . Always makes me happy when I have backup parts and PCs around, like an extra keyboard, when drivers decide to randomly fail and whatnot. In terms of games, Fortnite? lol π Anything really. my current Mac doesn't have a "Metal" GPU, rendering it useless with most modern games (like Unreal games, or even the latest WoW expansion) π£
Started a cannabis-based web-based publication . We started on social networks like Tumblr, created our own website and platform, and ended up creating digital media for cannabis connoisseurs from articles to video series to weekly advice columns. Made thousands of ganja-related GIFs you've probably seen before: Didn't make killer cash on the project, since revenue was predicated upon ad revenue and sponsorship from other cannabis companies (since mainstream companies wouldn't work with us), and we'd have to hop from different payment services (Paypal, Stripe, Amsterdam-based services, etc etc) and banks cause each would ban us based on us being a cannabis company (despite never selling the plant, and only writing about it). Building the project got me the attention of lots of companies in the industry, where I was eventually hired by another 420-centric company and flown out to Cali to join their team.
For max productivity I usually try to manage my diet strictly. It's all about what you eat, as well as how you treat your body. Following a few guidelines for myself ensures that I'm feeling the most energized and crisp: Plenty of fiber to cut down the sugar. The more natural fiber you have, the less impact sugar has (which is why a salad helps a bowl of rice or pasta go down without making you as sleepy after). Clean, long burning carbs (oats, brown rice, etc) Protein in the morning! And just enough in general, helps manage appetite. Plenty of low caloric, whole foods that are filling (veggies, fruits, etc). They're easier for your body to process than "processed" foods, meaning more energy for your brain β‘οΈ Smaller meals more consistently. Helps ensure my brain doesn't get fog from overeating something I shouldn't (like bread π₯) It's all about feeling out your body. I know a lot of people that prefer fasting, or thrive in an environment with only 2-3 large meals a day. Depends on your personal metabolism, activity levels, environment, etc. Experiment with your foods, record them and the effects in a log to keep track. And try mixing things up. If you get sleepy after lunch and changing the food doesn't help, maybe consider going on a walk to encourage digestion and get your blood pumping. Dedicating 30 minutes to something like that could help snap you back, as opposed to losing a couple hours feeling catatonic and nodding off π
Nice list π Can't wait to have more ML-based BG removers and designers never have to toil over it in Photoshop π€£ Highly recommend imageoptim for Mac users. Integrates into Sketch too with a plugin , so you can automatically optimize on export.
