Woah! Truly amazing journey, lots to take away. The struggle's you have mentioned are exactly what I avoided via proper planning and developing my skills while in college. One thing I would like to add is the power of internship. I did internship for 6 months without getting paid a penny just focused on industry standards of software development and getting my Stack (MEAN+SQL) ready.
