Hi Ameen!
Thanks for coming all the way from Twitter! I'm happy to chat!
1) What do you think is the best way to grow on twitter ? :
Q 1 Answer:
I answered this above, so I will copy this for you here (since my advice would be the exact same):
With my Twitter following, there are a few tips and tricks I could share:
Don't be shy to get personal! Let people know who you are. Show genuine interest and ask people questions on Twitter! If you get to know someone on a personal level and show them that you want to get to know them, just like you would with a friend, then you will build a relationship with them! I obviously don't have that opportunity with every follower now, but at first it was a bit easier to maintain. I made really great friends through Twitter and would highly recommend it.
ATTEND MEETUPS! If you go to a Meetup, chances are, there are a lot of folks who are eager to meet other folks and connect. Here, you can share your LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, GitHub, and talk about the experience you had at a Meetup. Finding something that connects you to someone makes a lasting impression, and the best part is, it's genuine. I love to hear how folks feel after a Meetup! I just attended a Webinar and connected with over 100 people, but I had to jump straight into our AMA so I didn't have a chance to connect with everyone on a personal level (YET).
Make TIME. Make time to think about what you are going to Tweet, and to scroll through your feed to engage with others. If you don't enjoy Twitter, this will seem like a chore. I really enjoy my time on Twitter and love using Twitter to learn new tricks for code, and of course make more friends!
2) How should one decide when is the right time to go job hunting ? :
Q 2 Answer: In almost all situations in life, most times will not feel like it's the "right time".
I'll share a story with you. I was supposed to start my bootcamp journey with Juno College in April 20th 2020 of this year. It ended up getting pushed back to May of 2020. 3 weeks difference, but I would have entered the job market sooner.
The thing is, I had a moment of worry. What if online schooling is NOT for me? What if I fail because of this? If I push back to a later date, maybe corona will be over and I will be able to attend school in person! So, I spoke to some of the staff from my school and transferred into a later cohort which was meant to starting in June 2020.
For a week, I thought about this decision, and realized that right now, I'm at home, not doing anything and waiting for a global pandemic to end. Why should I waste my time, even though I'm scared? I need to believe in myself. I NEED to do this! This is my passion, my dream, I need to see it come to life!
I contacted my school again and asked them to transfer me back in to my program with the original start date of May 2020, and they agreed to do so (but it was the last time I could transfer, and I had to be ABSOLUTELY sure). The point of this story is that I felt like I wasn't ready, and I was scared. I did it anyway because sometimes you never know what the outcome would be! I'm glad I did it and I wouldn't change it for the world.
To relate this back to the job market, it's the exact same thing. You may not feel ready, even I don't, but you gotta put yourself out there! Show people who YOU are and why you're worthy of an opportunity with them.
3) How is your new job like ? :
Q 3 Answer:
I have some freelance work which has been a fun experience. I can't wait to share the final product with everyone, but for now, I'm still looking for a more permanent role where I can grow as a developer!
Thanks again for joining me today! I'll see you around!
