Basically my teacher who knows fuck all about coding thinks that Windows is the best for everything, however, for programming I find MacOS a MUCH more pleasant OS to use, I wanted to know if it was just me or other people shared the same opinion, which is why I'm not including the Linux option.
Zyth to be honest, I dislike Apple in a lot of regards, and I have enumerated countless reasons in my past posts. It mainly boils down to Windows still being a lot more open for tinkering and there not being a walled garden. Imho, macOS is not pleasant at all and equals a prison of DAU design choices. That's why I decided to use a Windows computer at work instead of a Mac.
When given the choice, however, I always opt for a FOSS OS, such as a Linux or BSD distribution (and waiting for Redox to become more stable with support for major programs). The only reason I still use Windows at home is that I want to play the latest games, which use (DirectX) APIs not yet supported by Wine or running too slowly (with Elex being the last game making me switch to Windows because of shader problems; horay for Vulkan and SPIR-V).
Until now, I was on the you-must-tinker-for-it-to-work Gentoo Linux, but as soon as I have some time, I want to switch over to NixOS and give it a spin as my main desktop distribution (mainly because Dependency Hell on Gentoo becomes too tedious).
I am wondering if those that chose Mac or other have tried windows recently? Turn on the Windows Subsystem for Linux in Windows 10 and give Bash on Windows a try. It's not quite the same as a full Linux install but for 90 to 95% of the things you want to do is just as good, plus then when you're done coding you can play games!
I have windows installed since a few weeks (new machine) and pretty happy til now. Even though I’m not familiar with it I like the Powershell.
