Well.. just use Hashnode Search... Everyone here will probably just tell you again how good their favorite editor is, so you end up with too many choices anyway.

Since people already started to do exactly that, let me add my favorite editor. Kate. It has syntax highlighting and basic auto-complete. That's all you will need in the beginning, until you decide to go for an IDE :)

Follow up question. I am planning to edit on my laptop at home and I would also like to tweak and make changes while I have free time at work. Unfortunately I can't download any type of software on my work computer. Is there any way I could continue my project on the work computer while also using one of these suggested editors on my home laptop?

John Clark If you are not allowed to download software on your work computer, you might want to try using a cloud IDE, like codeanywhere.com or codetasty.com

John Clark I won't laugh about that question... it's just that we have search engines for that kind of stuff. One of the most important traits of a developer is to find an answer themselves by searching the internet. So you could have just typed in something like "IDE wiki" and google would have answered with a very detailed Wikipedia article about what an IDE is. I really recommend making it a habit to first try to find an answer on your own if you want to become a software developer! After all, being a developer is all about solving problems ;)

IDE is the abbreviation for "Integrated Development Environment" and describes a tool-set consisting of a code editor with additional project features, like a debugger, toolchain management, version control, etc.
