Wait what?? The Backend is having so many votes?? I would have guessed that front-end will win by 10x margin. I find front end to be significantly easier than the backend.
Backend is traditionally more controlled and uses languages people spent years learning at uni, so it feels much easier to a lot of people. Frontend is much harder than many people believe, meaning they have a rotten time when they try to do it.
