I don't know if it so much taught me anything, as simply reinforced my existing convictions and mentality. Logic, reason, critical thinking, skepticism -- all things that programming shows WORK.
Hence my utter and complete rejection of things that do not fit into that way of thinking -- from noodle doodle fairy tales about a magical man in the sky, to shoving jade eggs up steamed clams, to 'trickle-down' economics, to crystals and chakras, to pot being some wonder-drug -- I don't buy into a word of it. The logic, reason, problem solving and research skills that make me a good programmer also happens to make my bullshit alarm ring every time some halfwitted ignorant moron starts in with any of that rubbish. Be it the preacher at the pulpit or some dirtbag calling himself an avocado, it's the same level of scam-artistry as the sleazy snake oil peddlers who prey upon ignorance with monuments to incompetence such as jQuery, bootstrap, or W3Schools.
Hence why after 40 years of programming I also don't blindly automatically believe it when someone SAYS something is 'easier' or 'makes you more productive' when ALL the evidence says the exact opposite -- or when nobody is able to provide any actual evidence to support those claims.
